Naomi, actress
This year, I’ll want this blog to give you a bit more of a behind-the-scenes look at my life as a photographer.
I often get asked about the kinds of people who reach out to me for photos. There are two kinds of inquiries. People are either contacting me for photos of themselves, or they’re reaching out on behalf of a company that needs photos.
In this post, I’ll show you a few examples of the former category. It really varies, but the one thing in common that these clients have is that they need photos of themselves to put online somewhere. Here, I’ll go through a few portrait commissions that I’ve had over the last several months. I’ll share who these people are and what they needed the photos for.
This is Khairy. She’s a personal coach and consultant for entrepreneurs. One of the many things that she does is fitness coaching. She wanted a few photos for her website.
This is Antoine Sicotte, who you may know as Le Cuisinier Rebelle. (Or, if you’re old enough, as one of the members of the Montreal band Sky!) This photo was taken for the cover of his cookbook, Papa Popotte.
This is Armani. He’s a writer who needed a Bladerunner-esque author photo for his book, Electric Order.
This is Sara, who just needed a simple LinkedIn headshot for work.
This is Michael, pianist and composer. Among other things, he composes little jingles for lo-fi sampling. This portrait was for promotional purposes.
This is Geneviève, who needed a portrait for her website for her ethical leadership services.
This is Amélie from Blumbox, her coaching company. She’s a coach, mentor, consultant, etc. She needed a series of portraits for promotional purposes.
And then, there’s a significant enough category of portraits that are not pictured above for my clients’ privacy.
It’s a new-ish type of photo that people have been asking for, and there’s been an increasing demand since about 2016. I went from having one request a year to having several per month. Can you guess what it is? Online dating photos. Yep, it’s a thing! Many people simply don’t have good photos of themselves, others don’t even have any photos of themselves. And of course they know their online dating profiles suffer for it, so some seek help from photographers. Maybe you’ve been seeing my work without knowing it!
Thanks for tuning in!
