About me

Hey there! My name is Alex and I'm a Montreal based commercial and editorial photographer specializing in portraits and headshots.

This is the website where I share my portrait and commercial work. If you’re curious about my personal photography projects, I keep those on a separate website. If you’d like to get to know me a bit better, keep on reading!

From biology to photography

I grew up on the South Shore and moved to Montreal to study biology at McGill University. My studies took me to some striking locations, including Panama, where I spent a few years researching electric fish.

I first picked up a camera to photograph nature and wildlife, but soon found myself turning it toward people (classmates, colleagues, and scientists). Photography became a natural extension of my curiosity for people and their stories.

By the time I graduated, I had fallen in love with photography. I decided to give a photography career a shot, and it’s been my life ever since. I still pinch myself sometimes.

My vision for portraits

Whether I’m photographing friends or clients, I’m always bringing the same energy and commitment to create vibrant, authentic, and natural portraits.

Over the years, I realized that a perfectly lit shot with the best equipment is still a failed portrait if the subject looks uncomfortable.

The last thing that I want in portraits is a result that feels stiff, clinical, or too corporate. I therefore made it my mission to understand how I could better guide people as a photographer, especially since most of my clients have very little experience in front of the camera. I take pride in my ability to create a relaxed and collaborative space in my sessions and I consider my biggest strength as a photographer being able to make people comfortable in front of the lens.

Moments of transition

When I first started out, I thought of portrait photography as a straightforward service industry job. But with time, I noticed a pattern: most people come to me during moments of transition. They’re launching a website, changing jobs or even careers, promoting a show, or entering a new chapter of life.

These are exciting, transformative moments, and I love that as a portrait photographer, I can play a part in marking and celebrating these moments.
