This is Burcu Emeç!
Fresh off her graduation from Concordia’s Theatre Performance program just a few days ago, you can now see her performing at the 27th St-Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival. In her one-woman show TLDR;SMH, you'll meet Lady Jîyan and explore the world of Kurdish pop stardom and female fighters in Rojava. (And in case you're not fluent in Internet, the title stands for Too Long, Didn't Read; Shaking My Head.)
If Burcu looks familiar to you, it might be because she's already all over my website, both on my editorial portrait portfolio and headshot portfolio. It’s always fun to team up with her since she brings so much to the table. In some shoots, you feel like you're on assignment, but with Burcu, it always feel more like a collaboration. Whereas other people might come as more passive subjects—which is totally fine, by the way—she shows up with a bunch of ideas and creative energy. And it's no wonder, since she’s also a talented photographer herself. So we played and experimented, and as is always the case with her, we came up with too many shots we liked to choose from. Lady Jîyan can be quite mesmerizing with her icy white hair and commanding gaze.
I’m looking forward to seeing Burcu perform! You can come check out TLDR;SMH at the Studio Jean-Valcourt du Conservatoire until June 18th 2017. (I love that Concordia University and the Quebec Drama Federation are talking about it and using the poster photo.)
Thank you for tuning in! If you want to keep up with me, you can follow me on social media (Facebook | Instagram), or if you prefer following someone more interesting than me, Lady Jîyan does have her own Instagram page.
TL;DR—I took photos of actress Burcu Emeç. She's cool, go see her show.
