Hope you’re doing ok in this quarantine! In this post, I’ll be sharing a few photo projects I’ve been doing from home. So far, I’ve been taking two kinds of photos.
On one hand, I’ve been documenting our confinement. You can see some photos here. I’m mostly recording this period for our future selves. I can’t wait to actually be able to look back on this. The other photos I’ve been taking are mini-series and these are the ones I’ll be sharing in this post. I never really have a clear goal with these photos. I’m mostly doing my best to stay active and have fun.
Remember early quarantine? When we were still talking about hand sanitizers and toilet paper? Feels like a lifetime ago. Back then, I wanted to play around with still life photography. I decided to photograph our prized Purell in a quick study of hand sanitizers. There’s a brief moment in which hand sanitizer can be almost sculptural when squeezed out of the bottle, I love that.
An idea that stuck with me was the idea of doing nature photography at home. But not just plant photos, which I do all the time. I wanted to try “outdoor” nature photography from home. One of Fred’s book is on Tiger wildlife research, and flipping through it I found great night-time shots taken with motion detected camera traps. There’s something very distinctive about a flash-lit nature shot at night. I tried re-creating that feeling using the most tiger-like things I could find.
Now that I’ve made our pets look somewhat feral and majestic, I’m allowed to laugh at them a bit. We’re around them even more than usual and their quirks are more noticeable than ever. For a while now, I had been collecting occasional shots of their strange contortions in a series I’ve called Strange Roommates, and the confinement gave me a lot of material.
Hope you’ve enjoyed this post, take care!
